The Writing Place

What is the role of the Writing Place?

As the name suggests, The Writing Place is about writing. It is an academic writing support programme that helps undergraduate and honours students improve their reading, writing, speaking and thinking skills. At University, you will need to think critically and write in a formal and evidence-based way – we call this academic writing. Skills like academic writing, academic reading and critical thinking enable students to excel academically. At the Writing Place, you will get one-on-one support from a Writing Place tutor to help you understand, develop, and improve these skills. This includes support with understanding the writing process, how to structure your essays and assignments, answering all parts of an essay question, how to use grammar correctly, academic concepts such as plagiarism, and how to reference correctly using the different referencing styles used in the College. WP services also include critical reading, comprehension, paraphrasing, summarising, note-taking, flow and argument development, creative writing, oral communication, cover letters, and CVs. All you need to do is email us a draft of your essay or assignment or visit our consultation/drop-in centres.
